On Sunday 25th June 2017 Memebrs of the Norfolk Foreign Bird Associastion and the Norfolk & Suffolk Australian Finch Society spent an enjoyable interesting and thought provoking morning in the company of guest speaker Tom Broderick and his lucky wife Liz at the Shorelands Nursery in Dickleburgh, Norfolk courtesy of owner and local celebrity Ben Potterdon, who despite being engaged elsewhere laid on a welcoming brunch of local sausage rolls, teas and coffee's.

Tom is something of a historian of the foreign bird fancy in the North East as well as being a top breeder, exhibitor and Judge with a genuine lifelong love of birds.

By making comparisons with our clubs aims and activities, hopefully all "Sides" took some new ideas on board for the future to their mutial benefit.

Tom is a lifelong friend of both our clubs, has visited the area many times before, and our members  have been invited to reciprocate and judge up North, and so the meeting was regularly the subject of  reminising in a humorous way about past and judging antics on both sides.

All who attended had a good time!

Members above of the Norfolk Foreign Bird Association enjoyed an excellent tour of the UK Waterfowl.

Members braved the weather for an evening visit to the premise of UK Waterfowl, probably one of the best breeders of ornamental waterfowl in the UK. The establishment has many different species of Swans, Geese and Ducks for sale from all around the world.

Mike Attew, who owns and works the UK Waterfowl business, provided useful information about the waterfowl and wildfowl that he has for sale. He is a real enthusiast.

Michael has been keeping and breeding waterfowl for more than 25 years. He has also been a farmer all his working life, and has always been "green", long before that term ever existed!

He has in the past also been a very keen canary breeder and in the mid-1980's he won the National Exhibition with an apricot red factor cock canary. He was one of the top breeders of red factors and the new colour canaries.

Mike now keeps more than 120 different species of ducks, geese and swans, which includes the black-necked, trunpeter, black, whooper, coscoroba, whistling and the artic swan.

Mike provided the club members with a very exciting evening. It really was a fascinating time with mombers being able to get very close to the waterfowl. His breeding barns were amazing and he must have had more than 200 chicks on the go.

The end of the evening was spent in his garden where he has an impressive Koi Carp pond and an aviary, which houses a pair of Amazon Parrots, and then invited into Mike's house and treated to a buffet with teas and coffees all provided by his wife Janet.
